Johnny Cakes

The Lavender classroom has been making Johnny Cakes for the extended day snack this week. Emily has been reading several books written by Laura Ingalls Wilder aloud in the extended day. In “Little House on the Prairie” Laura eats Johnny Cakes with Mary. They are also called “Journey Cakes.” In one story, the Native Americans take the corn meal away from Laura and her family. Laura learns that Native Americans have different customs and that when they go into someone’s home and want something, they take it. It is how they share.
-Story retold by Hillary, Clara and Emily
