The residents’ bake sale

Today the residents of the Holgate Center held a bake sale to raise money for their activities fund. The proceeds from the sale are going towards a trip to the coast this summer to the aquarium.
The extended day children from the Sage and Lavender classrooms each made cookies to sell at the sale.
The Sage children made delicious (so I hear) oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and the Lavender children made scrumptious and sweet (so I hear) spring shaped sugar cookies. Each child sampled the cookies for “quality control” (Amy’s words), to ensure they were good enough for the residents.
Yana, Cole, Jonah and I delivered the cookies this morning and we just heard that our cookies sold out and that the residents raised over $300 and will be able to take their trip this summer!
I’m so glad we were able to be a part of this event.

Thalia, the director of the Kenilworth building told us that the cookies were the first things people bought from the bake sale. In the future we might have a stand that’s called Fresh Juice. We are thinking about ways to help get materials to build two more raised beds for the residents. Other ideas we have to raise money are a bake sale and a change drive (pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters). We really want to help the residents have a garden space where we can do it together.
